“Anyone who was not a liberal at 20 years of age had no heart, while anyone who was still a liberal at 40 had no brain.” -unknown

Whether sitting in the coffee shop, on the grounds, or even in the classrooms of most universities in the New York Metro area, the most fashionable topic of conversation among “intellectuals” is Trump-bashing. With left-wing politics dominating college campuses and starry-eyed dreamers looking to change the world and have everyone sing kumbaya, it’s a nightmare to navigate political discussions with peers. Done so openly and shamelessly, it would be social suicide to buck the crowd and stand up for an alternative paradigm. After all, the people that are so self-righteously slamming the right-wing ideals of today are also the individuals you’ll have to collaborate with in class and work with on group projects. Ruffling their feathers could have meaningful repercussions, so a conservative in this veritable lion’s den has to remain covert.
…Only those in the den aren’t so much lions as they are lemmings. It seems that at every turn, impressionable students are jumping on the next bandwagon because they heard some celebrity rant about a social issue or put on a pussy hat. Between the lack of meaningful discourse from dissenting opinions, the socialist propaganda on campuses, the leftist agenda permeating news outlets, and fake news spreading through social media like wildfire it’s nearly impossible to sift through fact and fiction. Most Millennials don’t have the wherewithal to do so, so they become dazzled by a few clever-sounding tweets and snarky memes and take them as gospel truths. They arm themselves with hand-drawn signs and march out to join in shouting crowds and pat themselves on the back for “making a difference” without any real knowledge of the consequences of the points they’re promoting.
It’s time for young adults to wake up. It’s time for a history lesson. And it’s time to stop shaming everyone who doesn’t agree with you while simultaneously promoting tolerance. I am not wealthy, a Nazi, racist, sexist, or an ethnocentric xenophobe–but I am supporter of Republican views and Donald Trump, the POTUS. I am a young, white, educated female in a suburb of New York City; I am a covert conservative.
